What to do in the first hour

This is for a home in Gwinnett or nearby — Dacula, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Buford. Not a hail map. Not a national franchise script.

  1. If water is still running and you can reach the shutoff, turn it off.
  2. If outlets or the breaker panel are wet, stay back and call for help.
  3. Move what you can off wet floors. Photograph rooms before you toss things.
  4. Do not run the HVAC if ducts are soaked. That spreads moisture.
  5. Send a request with ZIP and what happened. A local restoration company can start drying and talk to insurance.

Common causes here: burst supply lines, washing-machine hoses, toilet overflows, and storm water after a roof or window leak.

If it is a small drip and the water is already off, see do-it-yourself cleanup first.
