Insurance after water in the house

This is not legal advice and we do not file claims. It is what Gwinnett homeowners run into after a pipe, appliance, or storm leak.

Often covered

A sudden burst pipe, a failed supply line, a water heater that lets go, or a washing-machine hose that splits. Those are the jobs carriers see every week. “Sudden and accidental” is the phrase they use.

Often not covered — or only with an add-on

Read your declarations page or call the agent. The restoration company can tell you what they usually see approved. They cannot promise your carrier will pay.

What to have ready

  1. Photos of every wet room, the source if you can see it, and anything you had to throw out.
  2. A short written list: when you found it, what you shut off, who has been in the house.
  3. Your policy number and the carrier’s claim line.
  4. If a crew is coming, tell them you plan to file so they document moisture readings.

What we do and do not do

Call or send the form. The company that helps you may bill insurance directly. You still choose whether to hire them.
